Rachel Bellerby

I am the author of two books, both with Yorkshire connections.

Tracing Your Yorkshire Ancestors was published in 2006 by Pen and Sword Publishing.

The many different archives that welcome family history researchers are explored and explained. The book covers dozens of places, from tiny museum archives to large research centres.

Whatever you would like to discover more about, from fairground travellers to Romany gypsies, from working deep underground in a mine to making a living from the North Sea, there is so much to learn.

As well as tracing when your ancestors were born, married or died you can explore how they lived, how they spent their leisure time and what their home life was like.

‘an exceptionally good guide to the many potential sources of genealogical information in the old county’.

Chasing The Sixpence – Memories of Bradford Mill Book was my first book, published in 2005 by Fort Publishing.

The book explores the lives of those who worked in Bradford’s textile mills, from the 1920s onwards. The various chapters cover different aspects of life in the mill and home life, including outings and celebrations, family life, and the various jobs available in a mill.

I interviewed dozens of people whilst working on this book and was fortunate that many were happy to share their fascinating stories of a life that is so different to anything we experience now. Both books are available from amazon.co.uk and various regional and national book shops.

‘Fascinating…this marvellous book is full of detail. A vivid recreation of an era that slid away bit by bit’.
